Short description

Ceramics are no less sensitive an indicator of cross-border contacts than other types of artifacts such as statues. The potential of ceramics to shed light on connections within Southeast Asia and between Southeast Asia and other parts of the world has yet to be realized due to the lack of sufficient data on artifacts with secure provenances. This gap in knowledge is now beginning to be filled by new studies on such diverse subjects as early Southeast Asian kilns, the development of methods to determine the origins of pots suspected of being imports, and the ethoarchaeology of contemporary pottery production and distribution.
